We may be a little red dot, but Singapore made a big splash at the 28th Asian Television Awards held on Saturday (13 Jan).

For their work on the Mediacorp drama "Third Rail" (produced by Ochre Pictures), Andie Chen and Rebecca Lim won Best Leading Male Performance (Digital) and Best Leading Female Performance (Digital) respectively.

"Third Rail" is a psychological thriller drama about unfolding a gripping tale as armed hostage-takers hijack a train in Singapore, setting the stage for intense negotiations by crisis experts attempting to handle the situation.

Andie Chen reflects on "Third Rail" triumph

In an Instagram post a day after snagging the award, Chen wrote a heartfelt message about his win. He revealed that "Third Rail" was “pushing the limits of what a Singaporean TV series could achieve, and I was eager to contribute to this historic project in Singaporean TV history”.

Narrating the challenges he faced, the actor added, “Given the scale and ambition of the project, as well as the challenges the team was already facing when I joined, I suspected the conditions would be rough, and indeed they were. The team persevered through forced COVID breaks, an exceptionally warm set, complicated action choreographies, and non-negotiable deadlines that led to 18-hour shoot days.

The team's unwavering commitment, especially from the cast, left Chen inspired.

“What I didn't expect was the level of commitment from the team. The cast was especially inspiring to me. They welcomed me with open arms, and despite the challenging conditions, gave every shot their full attention.”

Chen, 38, plays the leader of the hostage-takers but all isn’t what it seems with his character.

Rebecca Lim shares gratitude for 'huge honour'

The actress also expressed her gratitude on Instagram on Sunday for the “huge honour”, and congratulated Chen on his win too.

She wrote, “To my entire 'Third Rail' team, thank you all. This would not have been possible without all of your hard work and talent... What an amazing start to 2024.

“As I prepare for my most challenging role to date – becoming a mother, I am grateful for all the love I've received from each and every one of you. I will continue to be the best that I can be. Your love and support keeps me going.”

Lim, 37, plays a passenger on the train who gets caught up in the situation. The actress had previously told CNA Lifestyle that "Third Rail" was one of her top three toughest projects.
