Christmas is a time for giving whether that is to family, friends, or the local community.
We recently met with Sarah Donaghy from Fareham Running Club to chat all about the Food Bank Run initiative she introduced which has since grown nationwide, with over 360 running clubs already pledging their support!
One month on, we are taking a look at some of the England Athletics affiliated clubs who have shown their support for the Food Bank Run. From Cornwall to the North East, it’s fantastic to see so many athletes and runners supporting such a worthy cause.
Run Peterlee – Durham
The runners at Run Peterlee in County Durham have done a Christmas drop to their chosen charity, East Durham Trust, in support of their FEED project.
Hear from Run Peterlee founder, chair and coach, David Ferguson:
“Every year Run Peterlee votes for a charity to support and raise funds for throughout the year. But whoever we support, we also support our local Food bank around Christmas time as it’s a tough time, especially so this year.
“As we’re a running club, we do what we do best and incorporate running into the annual Food Bank Run. Everyone brings their donations to the Peterlee Pavilion (our base). We load up sports bags, rucksacks and bergens, then run to the local East Durham Trust drop off point in Asda.
“Run Peterlee members always get behind our charity events and are always generous, whether it’s for our nominated charity, funds/donations for Ukraine or for our Food Bank run. Well done Run Peterlee!”
It is great to see so many clubs throughout the country get involved and do their bit to support their local community. Let’s take a look at just a few affiliated clubs who have started to do their Food Bank Run:
Hayle Runners – Cornwall
Hayle Runners in Cornwall have completed their first foodbank collection!
Lincoln and District Runners – Lincolnshire
The winter nights did not put off the Lincoln and District Runners from supporting their local Food Bank.
Wrekin Road Runners – Shropshire
It’s amazing to see over 30 Wrekin Road Runners join the initiative and do their first Food Bank Run back in November.
Skegness & District Running Club – Lincolnshire
What an impressive drop from the members at Skegness and District Running Club.
