SINGAPORE—Uber Technologies Inc. is selling a controlling stake in the car-rental unit in Singapore that came under scrutiny earlier this year for knowingly leasing unsafe vehicles to drivers.
The ride-hailing firm is unloading a 51% stake in the business to rival public-transport operator ComfortDelGro Corp. for 295 million Singapore dollars ($218 million). The Uber unit, Lion City Holdings Pte Ltd., operates a fleet of about 14,000 vehicles that are hired by Uber drivers.
